The Association’s purpose is to bring the art of Litvinovsky to the public’s attention, to make his many and unknown paintings a cultural asset that people can view, learn from and enjoy.

The lavishly illustrated Litvinovsky’s album, published in 1998, as well as this website are among the endeavors the Association did in order to keep Litvinovsky’s memory alive.

Litvinovsky's Selected Works

Selected Works

When Litvinovsky passed away in 1985, his Jerusalem home contained approximately 6,000 paintings. Out of these, about 1,000 were identified as superior works and are featured on this site.

Portraits

Litvinovsky, as a rule, did not sell his paintings. However, to make a living, he painted commissioned portraits. His sharp perception and mastery of drawing and color made him a preeminent portrait artist.

Figures

Most of Litvinovsky's paintings are figures, typically characterized by vibrant colors and a lack of commitment to anatomical accuracy. The figures appear in various arrangements: as individuals, families, in pairs or in groups.

Abstract

Litvinovsky began painting in an abstract style in the 1950s. His style is indeed characterized by shapes and spots of primary colors, but at the same time, he does not forgo the human figure or a figurative connection to reality

Pinchas Litvinovsky - Intimacy

Intimacy

Litvinovsky believed that intimacy is the root and essence of life, a conviction he expressed in the paintings he created during his later years. These works are characterized by sexual elements, as seen in a series ״Root of Life״.

Drawings

Most of Litvinovsky's drawings were made on paper using pastel colors (panda). They are characterized by minimalism and usually include figures, animals and in some cases also urban landscapes from the past.

Judaica

Litvinovsky, raised in a religious Jewish home, immigrated to Israel at 25, settling in Jerusalem, where he encountered many religious figures. These influences shaped the Jewish motifs in his paintings.

1920-1930

In the early stages of his artistic career in Israel, Litvinovsky focused on realistic painting. Some believe that those paintings are superior to the rest of his creations. However, he eventually shifted his focus to other artistic directions.
